As the year comes to a close, Sensor Tower provides a snapshot of the top tax preparation and planning applications on the iOS platform in the United States for the fourth quarter of 2023. Here's how these apps fared in terms of downloads, revenue, and active users.
Intuit Inc.'s TurboTax: File Your Tax Return saw a consistent increase in downloads, peaking at 26K in the final week of December. Revenue was strongest in mid-October and late November, reaching $44M and $42M respectively. Weekly active users fluctuated, ending the quarter with 309K, a slight increase from the beginning of the period.
MyBlock, by HRB Tax Group, Inc., had varying download numbers with a notable spike of 15K in late October. The app did not generate revenue this quarter, but weekly active users saw a high of 43K at the end of October, followed by a decline to 27K by the year's end.
The IRS2Go application, provided by the Internal Revenue Service, experienced its highest downloads in the first week of the quarter at 7K, and ended with a rise to 8K in the final week. While there was no revenue reported, the app maintained a high level of weekly active users starting at 752K and concluding with a substantial increase to 683K.
Keeper - taxes made magical from Keeper Tax Inc. had a steady increase in downloads, with a significant jump to nearly 8K in the last week of December. Again, there was no revenue, but the trend in weekly active users was positive, starting at 45K and rising to 55K by the close of Q4.
Lastly, H&R Block Tax Prep: File Taxes, also by HRB Tax Group, Inc., showed sporadic downloads with a peak at over 2K in early October. Revenue was minimal, with the highest figure being $23M noted twice in the quarter. Weekly active users saw a decline from 2K at the start to just over 800 by the end of December.
